Interfaith Neighbors’ rental assistance program
is designed to help working poor families stave off homelessness
or recover from the unfortunate circumstances that caused
them to become homeless.
Many families are headed by single
parents who are unskilled workers. Their wages are at
or below the poverty line and simply not sufficient to
pay the high rents in Monmouth County. Other families
are in crisis for different reasons. A child suffering
from leukemia, a working parent who has become seriously
injured or ill – these are some of the stories we
hear. Our rent subsidy can be the difference between living
as a normal family and eviction, homelessness and fear.
The rental assistance program is available
to residents of Monmouth County who are working full time
and have dependent children living in their household.
After a qualifying interview, those accepted into the
program are provided with support ranging from a one-time
rental or mortgage payment to a short-term rent subsidy
paid directly to a landlord.
This program helps approximately 200
families each year. It also operates an “Adopt-A-Family”
program each holiday season, collecting and distributing
donations of food, toys and gifts to many of these families.
