Why are leaves an important part of nature?

Together we will gather and study leaves and learn about how they provide food and air to help a plant stay healthy to grow. Leaves are the most important part of a plant. They contain chlorophyll that helps the plants to prepare their food using sunlight, carbon dioxide and water.

Why are leaves important to the environment?

As the primary sites of photosynthesis, leaves manufacture food for plants, which in turn ultimately nourish and sustain all land animals. Botanically, leaves are an integral part of the stem system.

Join Ms. Michele Morey as we learn about the importance of leaves and make a fun “leafy” project. Ms. Michele is the George L. Catrambone Green Team Leader at her school in  Long Branch. She believes all children should have a platform to come together to find solutions on how to make their world a littler “greener” now and in the future.
