“ROOTED AND RISING: A HORTICULTURAL THERAPY GROUP FOR ADOLESCENTS”

This is a four-week horticultural therapy group, meeting once a week on Wednesdays starting on 4/22/2026 (Earth Day!).

3:30 - 5:30pm, in person, Kula Urban Farm, 115-117 Atkins Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ.

All class dates: April 22, April 29, May 6 and May 13.

It is intended for 14-18 year old adolescents with mild mental health challenges, including but not limited to generalized anxiety, depressive symptoms, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and stress-related emotional dysregulation, who feel a natural affinity toward nature and are seeking regulation, reflection, and connection through experiential, plant-based work. This program is particularly well-suited for adolescents who feel an unspoken or intuitive connection to the natural world and are seeking to deepen that relationship as part of their mental health and emotional regulation journey.

Appropriate for participants who:
Are stable enough for group-based, experiential work
Are not in acute crisis
Express interest in or openness to nature-based experiences
Feel a sense of connection to, curiosity about, or comfort in the natural world

Modality:
Experiential, nature-based, trauma-informed group therapy integrating:
Horticultural therapy
Mindfulness & nervous system regulation
Reflective journaling
Psychoeducation
Somatic and sensory engagement

Please Note: This group is not intended as a replacement for individual therapy or higher levels of care, but as a complementary, supportive intervention.
