Omer has provided an Asian, Thai, Mexican, and American ispired vegan menu at Kaya's Kitchen in Belmar for 15 years. Among the eatery's most popular dishes are vegetarian spinoffs of dishes on other menus. For example, their take on buffalo wings is made with tofu or tempeh (cooked and fermented soybeans). Then there are the spare ribs made with seitan (wheat-meat), homemade hummus, the portobello sandwich, and the vegetable jambalaya over rice. Basatemur, a cultivator of tomatoes, herbs, zucchini, squash and peppers, ensures that 90 percent of vegetables served at Kaya's Kitchen are organically grown. In business, Basatemur operates under one edict - "Do good and pay the bills." He says, "You get back what you put in (and) you have to choose morals over profits sometimes." Come enjoy a true farm to table experience at this special evening, dining in the midst of the Kula Urban Farm, served by hospitality training participants from the Kula Cafe! Comfortable shoes are suggested—no heels—flats! The farm has mulch and gravel walkways. Menu to follow at a later date This event is BYOB so don't forget to bring your favorite wine. Kula Cafe and Kula Urban Farm are social enterprises owned and operated by Interfaith Neighbors. The Kula Cafe is a functioning eatery that offers paid restaurant industry job training to young adults in the local community. Participants learn to serve, cook, clean and everything in between and are provided with job placement assistance at the completion of their training. The Kula Urban Farm, located directly behind the cafe, is a job training opportunity for adults of all ages.The farm grows fresh produce all year long in a high-tech, hydroponic greenhouse. The fresh greens are used in the Kula Cafe menu offerings and are sold to many restaurants on the east side of Asbury Park. Both the Kula Cafe and Kula Urban Farm are not-for-profit enterprises and all revenue generated by these businesses directly supports their respective training programs.
