Happy Holidays One and All
Interfaith Neighbors knows great generosity on many levels year-round from donors and supporters of our programs.
The coming holiday season is in a category of its own, as families that we assisted the past year in our rental and mortgage program receive Thanksgiving dinners. Those families with children also receive toys and gifts over the next few weeks through our Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program.
For over ten years, Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls has donated 100 turkeys to be given out Thanksgiving week with additional sides of stuffing, potatoes, and canned vegetables donated each year from Mercy Center in Asbury Park, said Maura Comer, director of rental and mortgage assistance. This year, the OceanFirst Foundation and 1st Constitution Bank will be new donor partners of Thanksgiving meals and sides.
In December, Comer expects 100 families with children to receive toys and gifts through the longstanding Adopt-A-Family program in which businesses, individuals, local congregations, and senior communities are among the donors making the holidays a meaningful time for the families. Additional donated items often go to families assisted in the previous year or to other families in need.
For several years, a group known as the Ramsey Ladies from North Jersey, has donated dolls dressed in hand-sewn and knitted outfits with extra clothes and blankets. The Ramsey Ladies make the dolls for many charities, hospitals, women’s prisons and families in need.
“Every family should have a happy holiday especially during this time of year when it’s hard to be without,” Comer said. “If we can help make these days a happy time, that’s a good thing.”
